Monster Hunter Wilds – What will be in the massive Day One Patch and just how big is it?

Even though Monster Hunter Wilds doesn’t arrive until the 28th of February (Friday) the Day One patch is already available to download for the PlayStation 5 version and gives us some solid indications of what we can expect across other formats. So let’s have a look at what might be included, how big it is, and why you should try and get it downloaded before launch day.

How big is the Monster Hunter Wilds Day One Patch?

We can only go off the PS5 details at the moment, but the size of that download comes in at just under a tasty 18 GB. Compared to the likes of some other games, it’s not bad really, but if you leave it until launch day when everybody is trying to grab everything for servers everywhere your download speed is likely to be much lower than if you can set a few moments aside to download it overnight in advance.

What will be in the Monster Hunter Wilds Day One Patch?

We know that the update will take the game’s version from V1.0 to version 1.000.20, so in terms of patch numbering it doesn’t look like anything incredible. It suggests bug fixes, balancing, and the like but they alone would surely not give us a patch of the size of what we mentioned above. It could be that the patch includes the missing high-resolution textures that reviewers have not yet seen in earlier builds of the game. We will have to wait and see to confirm that.

Hopefully, we will get the full patch notes in the next day or so and will bring those to you immediately. Meanwhile, if you want to try and get ahead of the download queue you may be interested in finding out if the ‘New Zealand trick‘ will allow you to get your hands on Monster Hunter Wilds a little earlier than most.
