The new race for a foldable phone seems akin to the arms race at the moment. Major tech powers (similar to countries) trying to be the first to produce this new piece of tech. This new technology is undeniably true innovation, especially when you think what possibilities the new associated UI can bring with it.

Last year it was reported that Xiaomi
A couple of weeks ago, Xiaomi announced that they were in-fact working on a folding smartphone. Lin Bin, co-founder and CEO of Xiaomi, has published a video showing a prototype of the foldable smartphone. The folding mechanism is quite unique as you can fold both sides back to transform me more into the shape of a phone.

There are a couple of names that the company is considering for the prototype; Xiaomi Dual Flex and Xiaomi MIX Flex.

Following the confirmation of Xiaomi is developing a folding phone, the guys at LetsGoDigital went to work on some renders. These visualisations are based on the teaser video that was released by Xiaomi.
The smartphone can be seen with extremely small bezels. Both the left and right side can be bent back to make it easy to fit in one hand. There is a place at the top for the earpiece/Loudspeaker. This looks extremely thin and would be an engineering
I mentioned earlier about the UI that would help make the user experience quite unique. We expect Xiaomi to use a modified version of its own MIUI interface.X

On 24 February 2019 Xiaomi is holding their MWC 2019 Press Conference. It is expected that the company will showcase its upcoming 5G smartphones. Will the company show a folding mobile? It certainly seems a little early, but then again the company did say “before the end of the month.”
