Since its Early Access release on the 6th of December, Grinding Gear Games have been busy adding new content and deploying patches to the new action RPG Path of Exile 2. However, the future of Path of Exile 1, which was released in 2013, has been a bit uncertain, with fans left wondering if it’ll continue to receive dev support and resources now that Path of Exile 2 is in full swing. In a recent update from the team at Grinding Gear Games, it was confirmed that they’d be slowing down on updates to the original game, but they also announced that players can expect some “unhinged” updates to make up for it. Here’s everything we know so far:

In a recent update, the game director Jonathan Roger announced that they were having to push back the timeline for 3.26.0 for Path of Exile 1, stating that they were naturally shifting resources to focus more on Path of Exile 2. They reiterated their promise to continue expanding upon Path of Exile 1, but ultimately the team has found it harder to deliver frequent updates and expansions given the launch of Path of Exile 2. Most fans praised Rogers’ transparency in the video, but others voiced their disappointment with the delays.
Now, however, in an announcement posted on the Path of Exile forum, GGG have confirmed that to make up for delays to the 3.26.0 patch, they’re releasing a “one-month event that has some of [their] whacky ideas that never quite made it off the brainstorm board”. Whilst they didn’t elaborate on exactly what this entails, they did finish off the announcement claiming that they’re “looking forward to seeing how the community reacts to some of [their] more unhinged ideas”. Fans have responded positively to the news, with one writing that it “sounds insane” and they’re “pumped to hop in when it’s ready”.
For now we will all have to wait with baited breath to hear what GGG has in store for Path of Exile 1, but it’s safe to say that the community is pretty hyped to see what “unhinged” events lie ahead. Stay tuned with ReadWrite Gaming and we’ll keep you posted on what to expect in Path of Exile 1 and 2.
