Today, Chinese phone maker Vivo has launched the Vivo X21 in India at an event in New Delhi. The biggest highlight of the smartphone is its in-display fingerprint scanner, which makes it the first ever smartphone to offer the feature. It was launched in China back in March, and now India becomes only the second market of the phone.
Vivo X21
Vivo X21 was launched in China back in March in two variants – the X21 and X21 UD – with only the latter variant sporting the in-display fingerprint scanner. The X21 featured the traditional fingerprint sensor at the back. Vivo has however decided to launch the X21 UD with in-display fingerprint scanner as the X21 itself in India. The smartphone is also among the first to be eligible for the Android P Developer Preview 2, released earlier this month.
The Vivo X21 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo based Vivo’s Funtouch 4.0 operating system (OS) out of the box. It features a 6.28-inch (1080×2280 pixels) full-HD+ Super AMOLED display of 19:9 aspect ratio with iPhone X like notch containing the front facing sensors and the selfie camera. The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 octa-core 2.2GHz SoC, coupled with 6GB of RAM.
Much to the trends OEMs are following these days, Vivo has also focused a lot on camera features with X21. The phone sports a dual rear camera setup, a 12 MP primary rear camera and 5 MP secondary rear camera. The primary camera features an f/1.8 aperture and a 2PD (Dual Pixel technology) Samsung S5K2L8 sensor. Vivo X21 also has a 12 MP selfie camera at the front, but with f/2.0 aperture. The cameras come with features such as AI Face Beauty, HDR Mode, shot re-focus mode, Slow Motion video recording, Portrait and Bokeh modes and support 4K UHD video recording.
Apart from the in-display fingerprint sensor, the smartphone can also be unlocked using facial recognition feature.
Price, availability and launch offers in India
The Vivo X21 went up for pre-bookings in Flipkart last week, and remains exclusive to the e-commerce site. It has been priced at Rs. 35,990 in India (roughly $530), and is already available to buy, but only in black colour. A gold colour variant is due to arrive later.
Vivo X21 launch offers on Flipkart include 5% cashback on SBI credit cards, an extra Rs. 3,000 off over regular exchange value, and no-cost EMI up to 12 months on all credit cards and Bajaj Finserv EMI Card.
