Oh, Verizon. Deemed “the Cadillac of carriers” in the US, Big Red is the source of much admiration by customers who take advantage of its network. And yet, despite Verizon’s network reach, the carrier has gained a reputation for removing features from Samsung Galaxy smartphones (such as Write on PDF, Download Booster, Samsung’s own web browser, and even Samsung Cloud and Samsung Pay, among others).
If you’re the owner of a Samsung Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+, you’ll be even more bothered to discover that Verizon has also removed the Device Maintenance feature that lets you view and control battery life from your battery settings. It’s been said that Verizon does this for the sake of getting you to download its own Verizon Cloud, Verizon Protect, and even Verizon’s own account app (called “My Verizon”), along with Big Red’s other apps and services. Verizon updates for Android smartphones have been just as bothersome, though Verizon seems to be improving on that front.
“One step forward, two steps back.” The saying seems fitting here, with Verizon now being guilty of yet another mistake: delaying the launch of the Gear S3 Frontier cellular data model by another two months. Verizon has placed the Gear S3 Frontier LTE on hold until the end of June, with the carrier issuing a statement on its Gear S3 Frontier product page: Samsung Gear S3 launch is delayed, but good news: you can take advantage of this promotion when the Gear S3 is available. The Gear S3 Frontier is LTE-enabled, but customers must purchase LTE data plans to take advantage of the technology to send text messages and make phone calls without having their smartphone nearby. The Gear S3 Frontier was announced back in September 2016 with LTE capabilities. The Gear S3 Classic was announced on the same day sans LTE, but Samsung has now announced the Gear S3 Classic LTE model for the American market. AT&T and T-Mobile have been selling the Gear S3 Frontier in stores for months now, and the Gear S3 Classic LTE model has been on sale for weeks with AT&T and T-Mobile in the US. Verizon remains the last of the Mohicans on the Gear S3 Frontier LTE. Perhaps it has something to do with the carrier’s own Android Wear-powered Wear24 smartwatch that is headed to Verizon retail stores on May 11th?
