Unreleased LEGO James Bond game trailer leaks online

A look at an unreleased James Bond LEGO game has leaked out of Reddit. The trailers floating about YouTube and Reddit were intended as pitches for a proposed game from LEGO game developer Traveller’s Tales.

Originally, a post on Reddit a few days ago showed off an unfinished version of the trailer, with effects and models in a temporary state. On November 30, a more complete rendition was posted to YouTube.

It depicts classic LEGO games humor, with comedic twists on iconic Bond moments. Instead of a cat, Blofeld strokes a chicken and a car falls to bits when hit with a laser.

A moderator for the r/legogaming subreddit, a forum dedicated to LEGO games, elaborated on the trailer, saying that it was “vetoed” by The LEGO Group as they “decided Bond wasn’t suitable”.

Produced during the ongoing development of LEGO Dimensions, the company’s “toys to life” title, it was intended to be Traveller’s Tales’ next big game. It was also put together during Dimension’s final year of content development before further plans were scrapped.

Another user pointed out that the video is sourced back to content creator JayShockBlast, who mentioned that it was for Dimensions.

LEGO Dimensions opened up the games to more child and family-friendly brands, like Doctor Who and Ghostbusters. Users would put special mini figures on a “portal” to use that character in the game.

LEGO James Bond leak isn’t the first time it has been pitched

It isn’t the first time that a LEGO James Bond game has been pitched. In 2005, Traveller’s Tales was quite close to a deal according to a 2019 video uploaded by the founder of the studio, Jon Burton. In it, a test animation for Bond with a gun is shown.

According to Burton, everyone was on board but the idea was thrown out after Casino Royale rebranded the series more maturely.

The company has worked directly with the Bond brand previously, bringing out a rendition of the Aston Martin he drives. However, this was for those 16 and over. The company has also recently adapted Horizon Zero Dawn into a LEGO game, showing that the company might be open to more childlike adaptations of mature properties.
