Training and Contribution – Qt Developer Days S.F. day one

Qt Developer Days is go! Learning and contributing were on the agenda on the first day of Qt Developer Days San Francisco.
Five training tracks provided expert tuition and guidance from Qt partners and Qt’s own engineers to hundreds of training attendees. This interview with training manager Jurgen Bocklage-Ryannel provides insights on how Qt training is evolving.
The first day of the event also featured an stimulating full-day session called Qt Contributors Day.
Around 50 contributors to the Qt project ranging from Nokia, Digia, Intel and others gathered to hold a half scheduled, half unconference day focussed on progressing the Qt Project. Companies and individuals who are not currently contributing to the Qt Project were also welcome, and several notable representatives attended to see how they could become involved.
The timing of the day was excellent given the strong start the Qt Project has enjoyed – well over 1000 contributions were received in the first few weeks following the Qt Project’s launch.
The day was a completely horizontal format, all about discussion, collaboration, and at times,  interrupting :)
Some sessions were deep topics –such as how to get large companies more involved, or how to get community Qt ports more integrated. All sessions were totally slide and Powerpoint-free.
Qt Contributors Day also gave opportunities for highly specialised meetings and discussions on topics such as support for legacy platforms.
The Qt Project is still in its early days, and some very positive, constructive discussion was had on ways to get more projects added and started. For example, what if contributors to the Qt on Raspberry Pi community project want it added into the Qt Project – what would the process be for getting projects like this incorporated into the Qt Project?
What next?
The sessions from the day have been summarised on the Qt Project wiki page
In fact, Qt Contributors Day has its own wiki, including detail and abstracts on the sessions conducted. The conversation will continue on these wiki pages.
Joining these discussions is encouraged. To get involved, start at the wiki, and then head to the development or marketing mailing lists.
Congrats, thanks and well done to Quim, Knut and everyone involved in the success of Qt Contributors Day in Munich and in San Francisco.

Getting ready for tomorrow
Training and the Qt Contributors Day both wrapped late in the afternoon, and the day culminated in a welcome reception graciously hosted by Platinum sponsor Digia.
The stage is set for an engaging day on Wednesday as keynotes, tech tracks and Qt in Use sessions begin.
