Gear Watch Designer Mike Wickens
The Tizen-based Gear smartwatches have a huge amount of appeal to consumers because of their features that Integrate with your everyday life such as calendar, weather, battery, health – with Information on steps, floors, calories and Heart Rate Monitor, and more.
Tizen experts caught up with serial watchface maker Mike Wickens, who currently has over 150 watches in the Samsung Galaxy Apps Store, to see what makes him Tick.
What is your Background?
I’ve been working with computers for over 20 years now, my design skills come from my background working in mainly 3D on some popular game titles on the PC. I have also worked with Video and Adobe products for many years and enjoy taking those skills creating watch faces for the Samsung Gear S2/S3 range.
How long have you been developing watchfaces for?
I’ve been developing since the day I got my Samsung Gear S2 Christmas 2015, so just over a year now. Initially starting posting to the socials to get feedback and decided to create a seller account on the Samsung Galaxy Apps store. I have a wide selection of watches I have created covering all types of categories.
Any other OS other than Tizen you have developed for?
I have only created a few applications for my Samsung Smart TV, but have nothing Published.
How many watchfaces have you created and how often do you create them?
To be honest, I have lost count I have around 150 active on the store FREE and PAID, I get a lot of requests to make all types of faces which I enjoyed doing very much when the customer is happy.
How hard do you find creating Watchfaces for Gear Smartwatches?
The majority of my faces are created with the ever popular Gear Watch Designer from Samsung, I have created a few using Tizen Studio for a weather face. I find it very easy to do with Gear Watch Designer but it lacks many features customers constantly request like weather, ability to change digital colours, ability to change from 12/24 Hour, change hand colours, the list is ever growing and hope Samsung will address that soon.
Where can we find you on the net?
I currently post the Majority of my work on Google+ – Hopefully, I will find the time to put up a portfolio website sometime soon.
What are you looking forward to in 2017?
Really looking forward to what the Internet of Things (IoT) and smart things brings to the table in 2017 for the Gear S2/S3.
Have you any special giveaways for our readers?
I’ve got a Watchface in Samsung Galaxy Apps Store named A-Class Pro Blue (24) (pictured above) and it will be FREE !
