Tizen Developer Summit Russia 2014 Roundup

 
The Tizen Developer Summit Russia 2014 (TDSR14) was the first Tizen Summit for Russian application developers to engage with Samsung, and also industry experts to discuss the technical details and merits of the Tizen Operating System (OS). The event was held at the Congress Park Hotels Ukraine in Moscow.

Samsung cancelled their Russia Samsung Z Unpacked event that was taking place on the 10th July 2014, which was originally part of the Tizen Developer Summit Russia 2014 (TDSR14). The Samsung Unpacked event was seen as the russia launch event for the first commercially available Tizen Smartphone, the Samsung Z (SM-Z910F). The good news is that the TDSR14 and hackathon still went ahead as scheduled.

The keynote was presented by Dmitry Asonov, Head of Samsung Media Solutions Center Russia. He Introduced developers to the possibilities that Tizen held in the areas of Samsung Multi screen, Side Sync, Smart TV, S-Health and Samsung Ad hub. Tizen is an Open sourced Linux based OS that has the backing of the Linux Foundations as well as the Tizen Association. Telecom providers such as Orange, Vodafone, Kt, NTT DoCoMo and SK Telecom want a Tizen solutions as well as large hardware vendors like Intel, Samsung, Fujitsu and Huawei.

We have many advantages of using the Tizen OS including easy and low cost of porting of HTML5 web applications, and also the support of a Native API (C/C++). This is a Multi-platform OS for your Smart phone, Smart camera, Smart watch, Smart TV and Smart-WHATEVER.

We also have great 3rd Party frameworks support like Titanium Appcelerator, PhoneGap, Intel XDK, Marmalade, Sencha Touch, DevExtreme, Project Anarchy (Havok), GameSalad Creator, Yoyo Games and unity games.

Roman Menyakin from Unity Technologies, the maker of the Unity game engine which allows you to publish your unity games to the Tizen platform, also presented about the value added proposition of using the Unity Tizen Tool. Developers can bring their existing Unity games to new platform in a relatively easy and painless manner.

Matti-Pekka Sivosuo (Intel) also presented an overview of Tizen and Common IVI Profiles. He presented the Overview of exactly what Tizen Common is and why need it.

There was other Tizen Partners exhibiting their Tizen solutions, like Kaspersky Internet Security, Samsung, rollApp, AnyWay AnyDay, zvooq, GameInsight, ivi and XenZu technologies.

There was optimism and belief in the Tizen Linux based OS, as developers could see the potential benefit’s that it could hold for them, and somehow didn’t seem dismayed by the delays in having a Tizen Smartphone product in the market place. Possibly most didn’t follow the route to Tizen from its forefather OS’s like Maemo, Moblin, MeeGo, Bada and Samsung Linux Platform (SLP).

Most didn’t care, their focus was simple, making money, being found in a new ecosystem and being in a position to fully take advantage of it.

Other Interesting news was that the Samsung Tizen Z SM-Z910F was now included in the Russian Remote Test Lab (RTL). The RTL is an actual device that you can access remotely so you can run and debug your applications remotely.
