The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom gets a new trailer with a deep dive into gameplay

tl;dr

  • Nintendo released a new trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, launching Sept. 26 for Nintendo Switch.
  • For the first time, players control Zelda, exploring regions like Gerudo Desert, Jabul Waters, Eldin Volcano, and Faron Wetlands.
  • Zelda's new abilities, including Echoes, Binding objects, and Reverse Bond, add fun and interesting combat and puzzle-solving elements.

Nintendo has saved Monday by dropping a new five-and-a-half-minute trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, and it looks like it will be a Zelda game deserving of the title.

The game was announced during June’s Nintendo Direct, and is due to be released on Sept. 26 for Nintendo Switch. It is the first Zelda game where players control the eponymous Zelda rather than her frequent savior, Link.

The trailer shows off a variety of the game’s regions, including the sandy Gerudo Desert, which is full of mysterious ruins; Jabul Waters, where the Zora tribes live; the Eldin Volcano, with Kakariko village at its base and the Gorons high in the mountain; and Faron Wetands, a jungly region where Deku Scrubs live.

The trailer also talks about the many side quests in the game, saying, “During your travels, you’re likely to encounter people dealing with problems great and small. Helping people with their troubles is a big part of your journey.” This section also shows off the Adventure Log, this game’s version of a quest tracker, which is very similar to that of the recent Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom Zelda games.

Zelda gets some new abilities

Some of Zelda’s new powers are shown off, and as well as the ability to create “Echoes” that was included in the reveal trailer, there are other things Zelda can do to solve problems in Hyrule. Binding objects allows her to interact with things that are too big for her Echoes to handle and will move objects as she moves. The trailer shows her using this to circumvent a large boulder blocking her path, as well as dropping an enemy off a cliff.

Zelda also has the ability to Reverse Bond, which attaches her to an object and moves her as it moves. This is demonstrated by showing Zelda Bonding to a bird, which then flies her away.

These abilities, along with the Echoes, suggest that combat and puzzles in the upcoming game will be fun and interesting. The trailer shows Zelda creating the Echo of a hole and then Binding an enemy, dragging it down the hole to its demise.

The trailer also shows off Zelda’s ability to summon a horse with a carrot Echo, handy for when the game’s fast travel won’t take you all the way.

If this trailer is anything to judge by, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is going to be a fun, playful take on the traditional Zelda formula. The art style is also extremely cute, adding to the fun vibe of the game.
