Contactless payment methods are gaining wide popularity all over the world, including the Tele2 Russia customers. During the period from July 2017 to September 2018, the subscribers of the operator reportedly made over 500,000 transactions through Apple Pay. It accounted for nearly 10.5% of the total turnover of payments on the network’s site. Furthermore, 65% of the total registered devices on the network are smartphones. So the company clearly sees the potential for an even bigger revenue if all popular contactless payment tools are made available to its customers.
“Today, the penetration of smartphones in the Tele2 network is 65% of all registered devices. This indicates the great potential of contactless payment services as a way to replenish the balance of the phone. The results of the work of Apple Pay technology confirm the relevance of the service. So, in September the share of replenishment of the balance with its help amounted to 10.5% of the total turnover of payments on the site Tele2. Now we are launching two more convenient services, and now all popular contactless payment tools are available to our customers. This will allow smartphone users to make secure mobile payments without entering bank card and password information,” said Igor Maistrenko, director of sales and development of the Tele2 mass segment.
The new services will be available to all Tele2 Russia subscribers using Android smartphones in the coming months. Options to pay through Samsung Pay and Google Pay will be available both on the Tele2 website and My Tele2 application.
