Hussein Ghrer, a prominent Syrian blogger headquartered in Damascus, disappeared after leaving his house on October 24. Ghrer joins many journalists and activists who’ve been arrested and otherwise detained during the civil strife in Syria.
Other imprisoned journalists include Lina Saleh Ibrahim and Wael Yousef Abaza, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists. Also imprisoned is blogger Anas Almawari.
According to the Now Lebanon, the blogger had posted the following message in July.
“Note to intelligence and security forces: If you don’t like what I’m saying and you want to arrest me, send me a message and I’ll give you my full address so we can finish this according to your way.”
Supporters have started a Facebook page to agitate for Hussein’s freedom.
The effect of the Arab Spring reform movement on Syria since late January has been violent reaction by the regime. An estimated 2,500 to 3,600 people have been killed by government forces and their allies.
