DeviceVM, makers of instant-on software Splashtop, announced today a $10 million strategic investment led by SAP Ventures. The investment will be used to expand Spashtop’s mobile enterprise reach.
Many laptop and netbook vendors, such as Acer, Dell and HPSplashtop pre-install Splashtop on their devices alongside Windows. Splashcast boots in seconds, enabling fast access to enterprise software via Citrix and VMware clients, or to Microsoft Exchange email, without the need to boot into Windows.
Yesterday, DeviceVM announced Spashtop MeeGo Remix, an effort to expand Spashtop’s reach into non-PC devices such as smart phones. The new OS, based on Intel and Nokia‘s MeeGo platform, also opens the Splashtop to third party developers. DeviceVM CEO Mark Lee says Spashtop will help make new mobile devices enterprise-ready by “enabling IT to better support them within existing management and security policies.”
The investment follows SAP’s pending acquisition of Sybase, which demonstrates further interest in mobile platforms on SAP’s part.
