Samsung’s smartphone market share and sales plummet in Japan

In spite of what has happened on many markets, Samsungs sales in Japan came down fiercely. According to sources in the industry sales dropped from almost 2 million units in the fourth quarter of last year (1.9 million to be precise) to just one million units in the 3rd quarter of this year. We’re talking the complete smartphone range. And that decline is going on for almost four years in a row now.
One can come up with many reasons but there are two reasons that bite meanest: Japan’s own Sony smartphones (selling 1.9 million units) is one, NTT DoCoMo offering iPhones proved another hard nut to crack.
Galaxy 4, Note 3 were important new offerings but they probably did not make too much of a difference. So how about a Tizen based smartphone, or phablet? That would certainly draw attention to the hipsters of Tokyo but in order to re-create Samsungs’ massive sales it’s not just about being different but about being better, being smarter. Which puts a lot of responsibility in the hands of the people commonly knows as “marketeers!”
