Samsung’s Family Hub smart refrigerator is probably one of the smartest Internet of Things gadgets around and yet the device is getting even smarter. Samsung is said to be working on modalities to include Samsung Pay on the smart refrigerator.
The Family Hub is Samsung’s way of redefining kitchen experiences, thereby taking the idea of smart home products to a realistic pedestal. The Family Hub combines the conventional refrigeration functions of the refrigerator with innovative functions as the hub for family communications, entertainment, and smart home services. With these functions, Family Hub transforms the kitchen into an ideal space for family time.
One unique feature of the Family Hub is that users can from the comfort of their homes, conveniently shop for groceries online. Already, Samsung is in partnership with three of the largest grocery distributors in South Korea like Emart, Lotte mart and Home plus. Also, the South Korean company is in partnership with several online shopping services and in Europe they have partners in Eataly, Supermercato24, andcoop@home. Family Hub owners also have exclusive access to recipes created by members of Samsung’s Club des Chefs, in addition to thousands of recipes from global partners such as All Recipes which is the most downloaded recipe app in the world. The Wi-Fi enabled Family Hub also offers access to other recipes app like Whisk and CHEFKOCH.DE.
Presently, payments can be made from the Family Hub’s user interface but are only available via the use of the Samsung Card. All that is now set to change when Samsung Pay gets integrated into the smart refrigerator. Samsung Pay is built with Samsung’s most advanced security features such as such as tokenization, secure code with Samsung KNOX built in. Apart from its secure platform, Samsung Pay also simplifies shopping by ensuring you not only place your orders from the smart refrigerator, but also pay for all you purchased without stepping out of your apartment.
The Samsung Pay on the Family Hub smart refrigeration seems will likely be kick-started in South Korea, Samsung’s home country. Customer’s account in about 5 commercial banks in Korea can now be connected to via Samsung Pay and most of the payment cards there also now support Samsung Pay.
This new development is seen as a step in the right direction in boosting the popularity of Samsung Pay and the integration of the Family Hub on the payment platform would serve that purpose just well since Samsung Pay was hitherto only available on the Galaxy S6 and higher, newer Galaxy Note smartphones, Gear S2 via NFC and would also be available on the Gear S3 when it hit the market anytime soon.
