Today, Samsung have officially unveiled two of its best selling innovative accessories – The Gear S2 smartwatch and the Gear VR headset in India and will be made available both on online and offline stores. The Gear S2 smartwatch was launched in two variants, the Gear S2 and Gear S2 classic. The Tizen based smartwatches come with a Circular display and a unique rotating bezel for controls. The Gear S2 will cost Rs. 24,300 while the Gear S2 classic will be available for Rs. 25,800 and will be available online exclusively on Flipkart and offline at Samsung’s Retail stores.
The Gear S2 is currently compatible only with Android Kitkat and above devices and is expected to recieve an OTA very soon making it compatible with even iOS devices. Both the Gear S2 and the Gear S2 classic have similar specs under the hood but its the cosmetic look that sets them apart. The Gear S2 has a sporty appeal to it with a silicon strap and futuristic design. The Gear S2 Classic goes for a more traditional look with a genuine leather strap and a black body. Samsung stated that additional straps in various color options will also be available soon. Samsung also announced that the newly launched 18k Rose Gold and Titanium variants of the Gear S2 smartwatch will also be made available by the end of February. At the launch event Samsung stated that the Gear S2 was developed in India at Samsung’s R&D centre in Bangalore and in partnership with a few Indian third party bodies.
The Gear VR headset will be compatible with the Samsung Galaxy Note 5, S6 ,S6 edge and S6 edge plus smartphones. The Gear VR headset is the right step forward to experience Virtual Reality content like 360 degree monoscopic/stereoscopic photos, videos, games and and animated experiences. It has been made in partnership with Oculus and most of the content will be available from the Milk VR library. The Gear VR will cost Rs. 8200 and will go on sale from today online exclusively on Flipkart and offline at select Croma and Reliance Digital stores.
