We have heard that the Samsung Gear S3 series are a good military grade wearable and Samsung Electronics is not joking about that as the Samsung Gear S3 Frontier prepares to mark the 65th anniversary of the Portuguese Air Force (FAP). To mark this celebration, the Samsung Gear S3 Frontier will use the official display of FAP which was developed in Portugal and is used by FAP pilots that belong to combat and defense units. Other units that use this display includes instruction, transportation, surveillance, as well as search and rescue units. The background of the dial has the Cross of Christ emblem because it is the element that identifies FAP aircraft globally. This is the first time in history that a smartwatch manufacturer will be directly associated with the military.
The display of the Gear S3 Frontier will have a customized eagle appearing at 12 o’clock accompanied with the inscription “Portuguese Air Force”. Also, there is an alternative display that shows the Portuguese flag in a continuous circular display which is a symbol of the consistent availability of FAP soldiers to serve whenever and wherever they are called upon to. Recall that the Samsung Gear S3 series is MIL-STD-810G and IP68 certified which means that it is resistant dust and water. This smartwatch supports making/receiving calls and sending/receiving SMS and other messages if paired with a smartphone. It is compatible with Android 4.4 or higher as well as iOS 9.0 or later. Its rotating bezel and touch screen functions ensure ease in navigating through the menu of the watch. Finally, this military grade smartwatch is compatible with wireless charging and can last for 3 to 4 days depending on usage. It integrates other functions such as altimeter, barometer, gyroscope, Bluetooth connectivity, Wi-Fi, Near Field Communication (NFC), Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) and GPS / Glonass navigation.
