Samsung have recently released their Tizen Samsung Gear 2 Smartwatch range, but it seems the Korean tech giant doesn’t want to stop there. According to a report in the Korean media, Samsung are getting ready to take on Google in the Glass department, naming it “Samsung Gear Glass”, which doesn’t have the Galaxy name, therefore adding support to it running Tizen.
It is thought that the release will come during Europe’s largest tech event, IFA 2014 September 5-10 in Berlin, Germany. Samsung previously obtained design patents for wearable devices, at the end of 2013, and more recently from the American Patent Law Association.
A Samsung “associate” said that, after launching the first smartwatch, the company has “secured a considerable amount of smart glass-related technology and patents“
The Samsung Glass device will have a Bluetooth earpiece with a heads-up-display, rather than a pair of glasses. Companies such as LG, Sony, MicroSoft, Apple, and Epson have their own “Glass” hardware ambitions, but Samsung could outflank them all with Tizen.
Do you think the Glass market is viable? Will you get one? Please let us know in the comments.
