Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro vs. Fitbit Charge 3: Which fitness tracker suits your needs

The Fitbit Charge 3 is about to hit the streets soon. It’s Fitbit’s smartest fitness tracker to-date and comes with a special female health tracking, and even Fitbit Pay! If you’re already into the Fitbit ecosystem, the Charge 3 might be the best fitness-tracker for you. However, if you’re not, there are other alternatives, with Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro sitting pretty good within the radar. So which one should you buy? Let’s find out.

Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro vs Fitbit Charge 3

These two devices do a lot of things right when it comes to basic fitness-tracking. They both are water resistant and are capable of tracking your steps, distance, calories burned, sleep cycles, and much more. Their companion apps – Samsung Health for the Gear Fit2 Pro and Fitbit app for the Charge 3 – further provide you with a much detailed view of your activity stats.
However, if you look into these devices’ functionality beyond fitness-tracking, you’d find a few key differences that need to be pondered upon.

The Gear Fit2 Pro sports a big 1.5-inch color OLED display, which is more pleasing to look at as compared to the grayscale screen on the Charge 3. The Fit2 Pro also gets a big edge thanks to the built-in GPS and the ability to locally store music via Spotify. With Fit2 Pro, you can map your runs and listen to music without bothering to carry your phone. You don’t get either in the Charge 3.
The Fitbit Charge 3, meanwhile, shines with its seriously great suite of health tools. It offers a special feature called ‘female health tracking’, allowing female users to keep tabs on the menstrual cycle. It also offers a more detailed sleep tracking info and a personalized cardio fitness level.
The Charge 3 also offers a much bigger battery life of up to 7 days, compared to 3 days battery life of Fit2 Pro. Also, a special edition of the Charge 3 supports Fitbit Pay for mobile payments. There’s no Samsung Pay in the Gear Fit2 Pro.
Both the Gear Fit2 Pro and Charge 3 support notifications from your paired phone. You can respond to texts and emails with pre-set messages. But this works on the Charge 3 only if it’s paired to an Android phone.

Verdict

The Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro is an all-around fitness tracker that’s better suited for runners or people who prefer to tune-in to music during workouts. The stunning OLED display and a much more polished Samsung Health interface makes fitness tracking a pleasant experience.
The Fitbit Charge 3, on the other hand, makes up for it’s deficiencies with a better suite of fitness and health tools. The band also runs a full week without having to refuel, giving an extra edge to it.
The Charge 3 costs $149.95 for the normal edition, which comes in Black/Graphite and Blue Gray/Rose Gold color options. The special edition of the Charge 3 offers Fitbit Pay, and an extra band, and costs $169.95. It’s available in Lavender/Rose Gold and Frost White/Graphite hues. You can pre-order the device today at Fitbit.
The Fit2 Pro, meanwhile, comes in Red and Black color options and costs $149.99 at Amazon.
