Samsung Electronics America, Inc. (SEA), announced today that some Galaxy S8 and S8+ owners in the US will get early access to the voice control features to be developed on Bixby. This feature will allow users to have direct access to Samsung’s intelligent interface thus they can have more voice-oriented control of their device. SEA is thereby calling on the US Galaxy S8 and S8+ community to sign up and participate in the preview test which will come soon.
In the announcement, CTO and Head of R&D, Software and Services, Samsung Mobile, Injong Rhee said that “We see Bixby as an intelligent interface for your phone — an integral part of our connected ecosystem,” He further said that we are living in a more connected life today and that Bixby is not providing voice control to smartphones alone but it’s also extending to home appliances like televisions and refrigerators.
This Bixby update will provide users with a simple and more intuitive way to interact with the Galaxy S8 and S8+ thus you can easily navigate through your phone’s apps, services, and settings with a mix of voice commands and touch. Bixby was unveiled last spring using Samsung’s latest S8 and S8+ smartphones and it is offering an intelligent and personalized interface for using your smartphone.
Bixby is different from other voice-assisted services in the market. It is designed to perform very complex tasks like telling you what you are looking at, where you are and what you need to do. It practically learns your routine and reminds you when you are skipping something. You can ask Bixby to take a selfie and text it to someone, or ask Bixby to send your friends your location, and then later remind you where you parked. Bixby can handle complex tasks however you describe them. In time, Samsung plans to include additional features in Bixby like including additional languages and third-party apps and devices.
