Samsung confirms the secure crypto storage in Galaxy S10

It’s official. The newly launched Samsung Galaxy S10 comes with a crypto wallet for storing private cryptocurrency keys. Samsung confirmed the support through an official press release earlier this week, following the launch of the Galaxy S10 series in San Francisco.

“Galaxy S10 is built with defense-grade Samsung Knox, as well as a secure storage backed by hardware, which houses your private keys for blockchain-enabled mobile services,” the press release read.

Samsung Blockchain KeyStore

Samsung announced three Galaxy S10 variants at the Galaxy Unpacked event on February 20. However, the company had little to surprise, as long as the three smartphones were concerned. Pretty much everything about them was leaked beforehand, including the Samsung Blockchain KeyStore.

Last month, images of a Galaxy S10 surfaced online revealing the crypto wallet support on it. The images portrayed a Samsung Blockchain KeyStore, with Ethereum listed as a supported cryptocurrency. While Samsung didn’t name the wallet in the press release, it did confirm that there will be a hardware-backed secure storage for keeping private cryptocurrency keys.

Samsung is not the only smartphone maker to bring crypto capabilities into smartphones. There are some blockchain focused smartphones as well, such as the Sirin Finney and the HTC Exodus. However, Samsung jumping into the foray opens up the possibility of mass adoption of cryptocurrency. We shall see how it effects the crypto business in the coming months.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 series includes an entry level flagship in Galaxy S10e, a regular Galaxy S10, and the Galaxy S10+, which also comes with 1TB storage space and ceramic back. The devices go on sale on March 8. Pre-orders are already open though, if you are interested to be among the first to get hands on it.

Smartphones with support for blockchain and cryptocurrency are getting real, and we can’t wait to see more of them.
