As those of you who have tried to implement VDI across your enterprises know, there are a lot of moving parts to coordinate with any particular solution. And one thing missing until now with many of these so-called “VDI in a box” products is the actual box, or the server, that can be used for all-in-one deployments. Well, now Pano Logic has included the actual box.
Announced today, there are two different versions of its VDI Express offering, called Express SMB and Express HA. The SMB version is sized for 30 desktops and comes with an HP rack-mounted server that is preloaded and pre-configured with VMware vSphere 4 Essentials running on a Windows Server 2008. The HA version includes a Fujitsu blade server and also includes Datacore Software’s SAN Symphony V storage management software and a redundant storage array to handle failovers and high availability situations.
“While a number of joint partners have deployed our solutions in the past, the new bundle simplifies the process for both the partner and the customer,” said Carlos Carreras, the VP of alliances at Datacore. “By delivering the HA bundle as an appliance, the user experience is simplified and they are able to immediately take advantage of the benefits offered.”
As you can see from the above diagram, Pano is trying to fill in the gaps to deliver a complete VDI solution, no matter which VM hypervisor, client connection broker, or provisioning software you want to choose. Certainly, you can mix and match the various components, or use their VDI-in-a-box with their own management software.
Pricing for the SMB model starts at $30,999 and for the HA model starts at $59,999, both for 30 seat licenses.
