Now You Can Search Your Email, Docs & Spreadsheets Right From The Main Google Box

Google expanded its field trial Monday for anyone who wants to be able to search their personal stuff into the main Google search box. In addition to Gmail messages, you can now make your Google Drive documents and files searchable right from Google.com.

Results from your personal files appear in the auto-fill box as you type, and they’re also listed on the right sidebar of the search result page. I’ve been using the field trial for Gmail, and it’s pretty handy to be able to find everything in Google’s realm from one search box.

If you want to check it out, you can join the field trial. It’s currently available only in English and for @gmail.com addresses, so no Google Apps accounts yet.

But the trial seems to be going well. Once Google and its field trial users are satisfied, expect to see options for this kind of integration all around Google soon.
