MOSH (MObilize and SHare) is a new content sharing network from Nokia. It’s a cellphone agnostic place to create and share games, applications, photos, video, ringtones and more. USA Today reports that MOSH is taking off in India, Russia, Vietnam and China – where most of the nascent service’s traffic is coming from. MOSH hasn’t yet officially launched in the US, so it’s been relatively under the radar until now. Nokia spokesman CJ Martinez told USA Today that since its launch early last month, MOSH page views have surpassed 6.5 million and downloads have topped the 1 million mark.
The “most connected” MOSH user currently is Darla, author of the Mobile Diva blog. She uses a Nokia N95. As you can see from her profile, she is a content creator plus collector/sharer:
It’s also interesting to see what types of content Darla has uploaded and doanloaded the most:
Images account for 60% of Darla’s uploads and 50% of her downloads — and checking around Mosh, that breakdown is similar for a lot of users. Audio is second most popular, followed by apps. Note that a glance at the tagcloud on MOSH’s homepage suggests adult images might be popular – almost certainly among the male users.
Given the relatively small percentage of apps in the uploads/downloads for Mosh users currently, it has a ways to go before becoming a true force in the Mobile Web. But with 22,400 users as of now, Nokia’s MOSH is off to a promising start. The site will be formally launched in the US next month, to coincide with the CTIA Wireless IT & Entertainment convention in San Francisco.
Finally, a note that Yahoo may also have a MOSH social network initiative – but it’s a rumor only and not related to Nokai’s service.
