Newsgator announced this week important enhancements to Social Sites, including a connector to its spin-off Sepia Labs’ Glassboard.
Glassboard enables individuals anywhere to convene for private group sharing and is similar to dozens of other services that have been available for some time. It can now connect with existing Social Sites repositories or can be used to start completely new discussions. It is free and available for iOS, Android and Windows 7 devices. What is interesting is that the Glassboard app can connect with existing Social Sites discussions, so you can transition into the paid Newsgator solution if you want more features (or to use a non-mobile browser). The backend of the app is built in Azure, by the way.
Social Sites itself has gotten a few makeovers of its own. First, there is integration with Microsoft’s Lync unified communications servers, so you can be notified about conversations in the social stream via IM messages, and any IM replies are incorporated back into the stream for reference, as you can see from the screenshot above.
Second, there is also integration with Salesforce Chatter and Twitter as can be seen from the screen shot above.
Both Social Sites and Glassboard will be demonstrated at the Anaheim SharePoint conference this week.
