Major Thailand tourist resorts earmarked for new casinos

As the bill that will eventually see Thailand become a major casino and gambling destination continues to pass back and forth between the various layers of the Thai government, the decision has been made as to which cities will be among the first in line to develop these new entertainment complexes.

Yesterday, we reported that the Thai Prime Minister wanted further consultations around the Entertainment Complex Bill, but time waits for no one in the gambling industry, and with big players already beginning to open offices in Bangkok in anticipation of the bill being finalized, we now have a clear indication of at least four of the locations, with more set to follow.

In truth, there are no shocks here, all four are major tourist destinations in the popular East Asian country. The developments are expected to draw some 50 million visitors a year and will create over 40,000 new jobs.

Each complex will feature a casino floor that takes up no more than 10% of the total resort space, which will also include a five-star hotel, shopping mall, sports arena and a convention hall, according to Asia Gaming Brief.

Cities selected for Thailand’s first casinos

  • Bangkok: Thailand’s capital and largest city, situated along the Chao Phraya River. A bustling hub for finance, business, and tourism, it blends modern skyscrapers with historic temples.
  • Chon Buri: A coastal province about 80 km from Bangkok, known for its beaches, vibrant local markets, and industrial centers. A popular getaway for both tourists and locals.
  • Chiang Mai: Often called Thailand’s cultural heart, this northern city is famed for its ancient temples, lively markets, and laid-back atmosphere, surrounded by lush mountains.
  • Phuket: Thailand’s largest island, set in the Andaman Sea. A top tourist destination, it boasts pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and a lively resort scene.
