LG’s next smartwatch, LG Watch Timepiece will be a hybrid watch

It’s been some time since we heard anything new about an LG wearable. However, the company is now back in the fore with an unusual new model branded as the LG Watch Timepiece. There is no formal announcement yet but the watch does exist, confirms Android Headlines, along with detailed specifications of the device.

LG Watch Timepiece

The most interesting (or rather unusual) thing about the LG Watch Timepiece is that it’ll be a hybrid watch. The watch will feature analog watch hands installed over a 1.2-inch circular touchscreen display. This hybridization may add some cool potential features to the way the device operates. For example, the watch hands could also double-up for an analog compass, barometer, altimeter, or timer, among other applications. However, this could be often annoying, specially when you’re using an app that doesn’t need these watch hands.
The LG Watch Timepiece will be the first LG wearable to run Wear OS out of the box. It has a stainless steel body along with an IP68 rating for dust and fluid protection. The physical watch hands with highly precise quartz movement will ensure both accurate time tracking and long battery life. The watch houses a 240 mAh battery that gives a back-up of up to 100 days on a single charge while operating in Watch-only Mode, by effectively disabling the Wear OS (almost).

Below the physical watch hands will be a 12-inch 360×360 circular LCD panel. As the watch is powered by Wear OS, its screen can display all watch faces and complications you can install from the Google Play Store. The hybrid smartwatch is powered by Qualcomm’s 1.1GHz Snapdragon 2100 system-on-chip, supported by 4GB of eMMC storage, 768MB of LPDDR3 RAM.
The device supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.2 for wireless connectivity, but won’t have cellular capabilities. The watch won’t have NFC and GPS, but will have nine-axis motion sensor on board.
The watch will available in two colours – New Aurora Black and Cloud Silver – latest by June 2018. We, however, have no information on how much the watch will cost. Apart from price, we have literally disclosed almost everything about the watch. Sadly, a picture of the watch isn’t available yet, but we hope we could paint a picture of it in your head with all these info. Stay tuned for more.
