Apple, mobile developers and designers had 98 days of summer to play with the iOS 7 beta. Now it is time for everyone else with the public release of iOS 7.
Apple latest version of its mobile operating system for iPhones, iPod Touch and iPads is officially available to the public as of 1 p.m. EDT today. In addition to the new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, Apple is making iOS 7 available to most of its other iOS-based mobile devices. Older versions of the iPhone will be able to receive the update all the way back to the iPhone 4 (which includes the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5). The iPad 2, as well as the third and fourth generation of iPads and iPad Mini, will receive the update, as will the fifth-generation iPod Touch (but no earlier iPod Touch generations will get iOS 7).
To install iOS 7 on your device, you can go to the “Settings” icon and go to the “General” menu item. Tap the “Software Update” button (underneath the “About” button) and download the update. Once the download is complete, you can install the update.
You can also upgrade to iOS 7 through the newest version of iTunes 11.1. Plug your iPhone, iPod or iPad into your computer and find it on the menu button within iTunes.

As with any time you update software, be sure to backup all your files (pictures, contacts, texts, etc.) before downloading and installing a new version of an operating system. Remember to have your device plugged in or charged to at least 50% of battery capacity before downloading the update.
Note that if your iOS 7 compatible device is having trouble downloading the upgrade right now, it is likely because Apple’s servers are extremely busy handling the influx of requests. This is nothing to be alarmed about and happens every year when Apple releases the new public version of iOS. Try again in a few hours after the rush and it should download just fine.
