Huawei Users Offered a Trade-in by Samsung

As you may know, Huawei has recently been put on the United States Entity List. The Entity List is a list of companies that are a potential threat to the US. Huawei is seen as a company that is ‘very dangerous’ and puts the US at risk for espionage. The company has also stated they’re making their own version of the Play Store and their own mobile OS. As you can tell, Huawei have a sticky situation on their hands. Even though Huawei have their own issues, it doesn’t stop companies taking advantage of the situation.

Samsung Singapore, however, has managed to see something positive in this situation. They have started a trade-in initiative to lead smartphone customers away from Huawei. With the trade-in, customers can give their Huawei smartphones to Samsung in return for up to $550 off of a new Galaxy S10. Samsung Singapore is also offering another trade-in value of ~$145 for specific Huawei phones. These phones include the Huawei P20 Pro, Mate 20 Pro and Nova 3i models. See below:

*Inclusive additional $200 trade-in value. Trade-in value may vary depending on the device condition. Specified trade-in values are valid from 1 – 31 May 2019, provided that Samsung reserves the right to amend the list of eligible devices and their trade-in values at any time without prior notice. Information accurate as of 24 May 2019.

Why would Samsung start this incentive?

A possible theory as to this Samsung Huawei trade-in is because Samsung wants to remain the world’s leading smartphone manufacturer – Huawei has been slowly catching up. For quite some time Apple and Huawei have been fighting for second place in the market (second to Samsung obviously.) Now, Huawei has claimed second place and has ~19% market share whereas Samsung has ~22%. This is reported to be the closest Huawei have come to overtaking Samsung.
