HTC’s second blockchain phone to be released later this year

HTC, a company once known as a formidable force in the world of Smartphones, has a different mobile strategy these days. In 2018, the company released the HTC Exodus 1, an Android phone that had built-in blockchain software and hardware support. According to Taiwan News, HTC’s second blockchain phone is to be released later in 2019. This obviously means that HTC is satisfied with how consumers have received their original blockchain offering.

One of the key points was that you could use the phone as a cryptocurrency wallet. There is also support for decentralized “web 3.0” apps.

At the moment, there are little details about the second-gen HTC blockchain phone. We do expect it to have a similar blockchain feature set as the HTC Exodus 1. You will be able to store crypto private keys in a secure partition on the phone. This partition will be separate from the normal hardened Android OS. If you happen to lose your phone, then it is possible to recover the private keys. Usually, if you don’t have a backup, then lost really does mean LOST. The recovery mechanism is by using a group of your friends. Everyone will have access to a part of your secret key. They can not individually access your private key, but collectively can help you recover it.

As a recap, the HTC Exodus 1 featured a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, 6-Inch display, 6GB RAM, and 128GB storage. It would be reasonable to expect HTC’s second blockchain phone to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor. The improvements in extra processing power and battery optimisations over the 845 makes it feasible.

No word on the retail price at the moment but the HTC Exodus 1 was about $950 on launch.
