He steals from the rich and gives to the poor – not this time – Multiplayer Robin Hood game shutting down with no refunds

And breathe. While never the most popular game on Steam, Hood: Outlaws and Legends is to shut down and become unplayable for those who have bought it after publishers Focus Entertainment and devs Sumo Digital confirmed the game’s demise with a “difficult, but necessary decision.”

In a post on Steam, where the game is still, as of the time of publication available for sale at just under $20, the devs said, “We regret to inform you that our game, Hood: Outlaws & Legends, will be ending service on February 18. After this date, the game, along with any Editions, DLCs, and Battle Pass items, will no longer be accessible.

This has been a difficult but necessary decision, and we understand it may be disappointing. The Hood teams deeply thank you for your support and dedication throughout this incredible adventure. We cherished every part of it and we hope your memories of Hood: Outlaws & Legends will be as treasured as ours.

As part of the scheduled shutdown process, you will find below two key dates with the termination steps:

October 16, 2024
Digital and physical retail sales will stop
Refunds will be offered to players who purchased the game 14 days prior to this announcement until the termination of sales

February 18, 2025
End of service: Hood: Outlaws & Legends will no longer be playable”

A damning look at SteamDB which you can see below, tells the true tale of the dilemma faced by the Hood team but those who bought it outside of the last two weeks can kiss their cash and time spent goodbye, perhaps leaving a bitter taste in the mouths of those who initially backed the game.

The question of whether a game lasting just three years before being erased from history is a debate for another time, but further questions of the validity of purchasing live-service games for many players. Even Sony has felt the pinch of late, having to remove its much-hyped Concord from sale after a tragic reception from players.

Several Steam sales bringing the price of Hood as low as $5 have failed to reignite interest in the heist game that started out as such a promising idea, as it now slips back into the shadows as part of myth and legend.
