Google Pixel 3: News, Rumors, Release Date, and Specs

Google has got into the smartphone industry quite recently, back in 2016 we didn’t know if Google’s Pixel series would be as good as they claimed. In 2017, the Google Pixel 2 was definitely superior to the original Google Pixel. Now, in 2018, we’re expecting the Google Pixel 3. What do we know so far? Read on…

Pixel 3: What can we see?

A YouTube channel that goes by the name of ‘In DIGI’ had uploaded a very crisp and high-res video of the Google Pixel 3 XL being unboxed and taken out of its packaging. The box also contained Pixel Bud-like wired earbuds. There also was a USB-C charging cable, a USB-C to USB-A adapter, a USB-C TO 3.5MM ADAPTER and an AC wall adapter. In the video, we see both the front and back of the front of the smartphone as well as some camera samples. The Pixel 3 and the XL version will have dual front-facing cameras.  The two cameras will allow for a new “super selfie” with a mention of a new feature called “Improved Portrait Mode”
The user interface is a little different from the Pixel 2. To change shooting modes on the camera, the app now has them listed above the shutter button. Users will be able to cycle through Portrait, Camera, Video and Panorama mode from there. If the user taps the “more” icon, they’ll get options to use the Google Lens, Slow Motion video, and Photo Sphere. If the user does choose to use “Portrait Mode” they can have Natural and Soft Face retouching or decide not to have either.

Pixel 3: Specifications

We can also see that the phone is running Android 9 Pie and it confirms our suspicions about the Google Pixel 3 handset. The phone will have a 1440 x 2960 screen resolution, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, and an Adreno 630 GPU. It will have a 3,430 mAh battery. As for the cameras, 12.2MP rear camera and 8.1MP front-facing cameras. It will have 6GB of RAM and an internal storage capacity of 64GB or 128GB.
As for charging, a video from a Twitter user @khoroshev showed the Google Pixel 3 XL being placed on what seems to be a wireless charging pad. When the phone and pad touch, the phone shows a small animation to show the percentage of the phone and it indicates that the charging has started. Google is still yet to confirm if this is in fact true.

Pixel 3: Cost?

How much will the phone cost? With the Google Pixel 2, it had prices ranging from $649 – $949. So we wouldn’t be surprised if the Google Pixel 3 will cost that little bit more and edge into $1000 range.
