Google has announced the new registration process for the 2014 Google I/O developers conference in San Francisco in late June. Instead of the first-come, first-serve basis that has led the conference to sell out in mere minutes in recent years, Google will allow interested developers and participants to register between April 8 and April 10.
People interested in attending Google I/O can apply for tickets between 5 a.m. PDT and 5 p.m. PDT starting April 8 and ending April 10. Google will then randomly select attendees who are qualified for tickets in a lottery-like process.
Registration will require a Google+ profile and a Google Wallet account. If selected for tickets, Google will charge the Wallet account automatically. General admission tickets will be $900 while academic admission will be $300 for students. Individuals may only purchase one ticket; it is not transferable.
Moscone West in San Francisco only holds about 6,000 people and in past years the convention center has been packed to to rafters with attendees. The biggest complaint many would-be attendees have had in recent years is that tickets to the conference sell out before many people even know they are on sale.
