Vic Gundotra took the stage Monday to open the Google I/O Android keynote to excited applause and thumping techno music. “Thank you for betting with Google, and thank you for supporting us,” he told the excited developers in attendance.
The first exec to take the stage was Hugo Barra, director of product management for Android. He provided updates on overall Android numbers.
Last year at I/O, Google announced that there were 100 million Android devices. This year, Barra revealed that the latest number is more than 400 million. Last year, Google was activating 400,000 devices per day. Today, there are over 1 million daily activations.
