Samsung launched the DeX Station alongside the Galaxy S8 and S8+ last year, in a bid to turn the phone into a viable desktop PC. The docking station lets you connect your Samsung phone to a monitor, mouse, and keyboard and use it as a desktop PC. Samsung has now launched the second-generation of the docking station, with a lot more features and improvements. This obviously brings a hefty price cut to the older one. Yes, the price of the fancy dock has now dropped to nearly half the original price. Originally priced at $149.99, the dock is now available to buy from Samsung Store for just $79.99. And if you’d prefer to purchase from Amazon, the online retail giant is selling the device at $82.90.
At Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona last month, Samsung launched the DeX Pad, an upgraded version of the DeX Station. The $94.99 priced device brings a lot of key changes to its predecessor. However, a few things that the newer one lacks, as compared to the older one is it doesn’t have Ethernet, and it doesn’t support the Galaxy S8 and Note 8 as of yet. Also, the horizontal orientation of the phone on the DeX Pad means it blocks access to the rear fingerprint sensor for login. Using iris scan unlock has also become all so clunky as you’ve to raise the whole contraption up and point it at your face, or lean down over it.
You might have, by now, guessed that though being one year old, the DeX Station still holds an edge over the new one. And a price of $79.99 is the best you can get on the fancy device. So if you own a Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+ or Note 8, this should be the perfect time to get the DeX Station and turn your phone into a lite Android PC. Head on to the links below and grab the device before its too late!
