Customization plays a huge role to users while buying a smartwatch as getting used to a new piece of tech which wants to replace the traditional wrist watch isn’t easy. And hence customizing it to at least suit to your style or personality is the first thing most users prefer. Samsung’s Gear S2 supported customization and there were a lot of replaceable straps in the market to choose from. However, the customizing process was far from perfect as only the Gear S2 classic featured standard links to attach the strap while the regular Gear S2 variant came with a proprietary linking mechanism, making most widely available straps unusable without an ugly adapter.
The Gear S3, however, doesn’t suffer from this problem as both the Gear S3 Frontier and Gear S3 Classic variants are compatible with standard 22mm watch straps combined with an easy to change spring bar mechanism. This doesn’t require the skill or expertise of a watchmaker to interchange the straps, you can hence have multiple straps for different occasions and change them on the go.
Samsung had worked with a couple of design companies while making the Gear S3 who specialize at making watch straps. Strap Studio is one such brand that makes straps for wearables in partnership with Samsung. Strap Studio’s watch bands are made from premium Italian leather and are available in 15 different color options.
SLG Design is another fashion accessory maker that Samsung worked with. The company’s watch straps are made from leather or canvas and have the uniqueness of sporting a variety of patterns, textures and colors.
These straps are currently available on the brands’ respective websites and Samsung will also be making them available on their Korean online store and at offline stores in HongKong, Singapore and Mexico in the future.
