Cisco Enhances Its Collaboration Tools

Cisco this week announced new enhancements to a variety of its collaboration tools, including WebEx and Jabber.

First up, Jabber now has iPad and Windows clients in addition to its existing ones on other tablets. Jabber users can now communicate via a wide range of devices as well as connect to the room-sized TelePresence products, as we hinted at in an article last year here.

Speaking of those wonderful telepresence rooms, there is a new model called the TX9000 that can support 1080p at 60 frames per second, which makes for a very lifelike experience. It will start shipping next quarter, and base price is $300,000. Yes, you read that correctly. You have to travel a lot of airlines to get a decent ROI on that kind of price.

For more modest budgets, WebEx has also been enhanced. The new version introduces “meeting spaces” for your meetings, which will store recordings of the conference call, any relevant files that were used as part of the discussion and chat records. The beta that I used was still a bit wonky but this promises to be a solid value-add to help archive your meetings.
