Black Ops 6 – How to slide cancel

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 relies more than ever on you being able to more quickly and fluidly around the maps. Treyarch’s new Omnimovement definitely rewards the more skillful warfighters while leaving newbies more exposed than ever before, but one venerable old trick remains both popular and necessary on the tight, smaller maps. That trick is slide canceling.

What is slide canceling?

Since 2019’s Modern Warfare, Operators have been trying to trick out opponents by pulling off moves that no human could in real life. Slide canceling made a big comeback in Modern Warfare 3 and saw the player begin a slide into an area but ‘cancel’ it in the middle of the animation by hitting Jump or another movement button. This would stop the slide animation and usually throw off the enemy who was laying down fire into your path as you suddenly sprint off in a different direction, leaving you to adjust, pop them, and smile.

It’s not popular with all players and many new to the game can find it frustrating but there is no getting away from it being a worthwhile technique in the hunt for XP – especially when you need it fast to reach Max level in the Beta.

That’s because slide cancelling is back in Black Ops 6 and we are already seeing the best players using it.

It seems as though, in the Beta at least, that slide canceling is not as quick as it was in last year’s MW3. You cannot cancel it as early into the slide which will take regular users a little longer to get used to it.

This may be tweaked ahead of October’s launch depending on player feedback. We will be checking again on Weekend 2 of the beta to see if it has been altered in any way for the second round of multiplayer testing.

How to slide cancel in Black Ops 6

To cancel a slide in Black Ops 6 you first have to perform one. This is simple, as you are sprinting you need to hit the Crouch button. X on Xbox, O on PlayStation, and C on PC if you haven’t remapped it.

To cancel out of the slide you then need to press Jump, Sprint, or Crouch again in the middle of the move and you will cancel out of it. As we noted above this is not something you can do immediately and you have to be in mid-slide for it to work.

Slide canceling can be perfected on the training ground map before taking it into battle for real.
