Bixby was announced as Samsung’s AI that would come pre-installed on the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, but it wasn’t available at the time when these futuristic devices went on sale on the world market. That had some upset that Samsung would announce Bixby as a compelling reason to purchase the Galaxy S8 but would then delay its arrival.
Well, the saying “good things come to those who wait” proves true here, as Samsung has finally released Bixby (all of it) for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ in its home country, Korea, this week.
The new AI proves to be pretty amazing, as it can do a number of things: take photos and share them (even via text messaging), auto-enhance images, rotate images, make an image out of your phone’s background or wallpaper, open camera, bring up camera filters, change camera filter selection, respond to text messages, share map directions, adjust volume settings, adjust brightness, change the Always On Display (AOD), view files, clear cache, check device maintenance, play songs with Samsung Music, view Samsung Health personal stats, measure your heart rate, make purchases, and much more. You can view many of its impressive abilities in the five videos below that Samsung has released to show off its prowess.
Samsung announced Bixby back in March at its Galaxy Unpacked 2017 event for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. The Korean giant acquired the company behind Bixby and Apple’s Siri, Viv Labs, for $215 million. From the videos below, it is clear that Bixby offers features that Apple’s Siri and Google’s Google Assistant do not – which means that, unlike S Voice, Bixby won’t be relegated to the “disabled apps” section of the mobile experience.
