Just like the more recent Assassin’s Creed games, Avowed puts you in situations where you’re required to make choices that could affect certain outcomes later in your adventure.
The An Untimely End quest does exactly this, requiring you to either kill or spare a character called Ygwulf — a pretty big ultimatum that does change things after your choice.
Here, we’ll be taking a look at your options, providing you with the outcomes of each so you can decide which avenue you want to go down for your playthrough.
Avowed An Untimely End: Kill or spare Ygwulf?
At the very start of An Untimely End, you’ll actually be given a dialogue choice of whether to report to the Ambassador or find the Watcher but regardless which option you choose, you’re given the same outcome thus not affecting anything later in the quest.
After making your way through the twists and turns of An Untimely End, you’ll finally come face to face with the assassin who aimed to end your life — Ygwulf.
Obviously, since they are the one that has tried to hunt you down, your natural instinct is to kill Ygwulf but let’s run through both options so you don’t rush into anything.
If you do opt to kill Ygwulf, you’ll enter a boss fight where you’ll actually need to do the dirty work.
Killing him will allow you to loot the Blackwing Armor from his body which could be a nice upgrade on what you’ve currently got equipped.
However, this does affect the story later down the line as the Paradisian Rebels then kill Garryck as payback.
If you choose to spare him at this time, you can either convince him to confess to the Steel Garrote or let him go completely.
If you make him confess, he ends up getting executed and Garryck shares the same fate as the attack option, with you not even getting the armor.
On the other hand, if you simply let him go without consequence, there are no additional fights and no problems with the Paradisian Rebels, meaning Garryck survives.
As for which is the choice to pick, if you’re not bothered about Garryck, you should definitely choose to kill Ygwulf as you’ll not only net some XP, you’ll secure some shiny new armor to boot.
