Apple is acquiring the image editor Pixelmator which makes Mac-based photo editing tools, with the company thanking its users for their support.
Launched in September of 2007 the graphic editor hosts a collection of pixel-accurate selection tools that are exclusive for Mac.
On Friday, November 1, Pixelmator shared the news of its upcoming plans to join the Apple team through a blog.
They announced the company had signed an agreement to be acquired by Apple which is now subject to regulatory approval. If it receives the green light, the iPhone maker will officially have the editing tool under its belt.
The Lithuanian-based team says they’ve “been inspired by Apple since day one, crafting our products with the same razor-sharp focus in design, ease of use, and performance.”
The acquisition price isn’t known.
Apple needs regulatory approval to officially acquire Pixelmator
The announcement continued: “…And looking back, it’s crazy what a small group of dedicated people have been able to achieve over the years from all the way in Vilnius, Lithuania. Now, we’ll have the ability to reach an even wider audience and make an even bigger impact on the lives of creative people around the world.”
With the editing tool built specifically for Macs, the move could be a good pairing. The team also shared that there’ll be no “material changes” to the Pixelmator Pro, Pixelmator for iOS, and Photomater apps “at this time.”
Pixelmator gave a “big thanks” to its users and for their support “over the past 17 years.” The company wrote that feedback “has played a huge role in shaping our apps into what they are today. As we step into this exciting new chapter, we can’t wait to share what’s next.”
It’s not yet known how long the process will take for regulatory approval. It’s not guaranteed either, as Apple has previously had to abandon a proposed acquisition of design software firm Figma after regulators in the UK and European Union opposed the deal.
