Microsoft’s multi-touch tablet hasn’t sold well since its release in late 2012. The device has been hampered by its high price compared to other tablets and limited functionality relative to devices that run the full version of Windows 8. The Surface RT runs a incompatible operating system called Windows RT, and has also been plagued by complaints about limited battery life and poor performance.

News of the price cut follows this week’s Worldwide Partner Conference, where Microsoft hinted at updates to the Surface RT and Surface Pro,.

Following the discount, the Surface RT 32 GB will be priced at $349.99, the Surface RT 64 GB at $449.99, the Surface RT 32 GB with Touch Cover at $449.99, and the Surface RT 64 GB with Touch Cover at $549.99.
