In line with its commitment made last year, Samsung India has said it’ll hire 1,000 engineers from top Indian Engineering Colleges this placement season. Back in December 2017, Samsung had announced that it’ll be hiring 2,500 engineers within India in the next three years. The engineers will be placed across the three Samsung Research and Development (R&D) facilities, Bengaluru, Noida and Delhi, in India.
The South Korean company would be hiring from top engineering colleges like IITs, NITs, BITS Pilani and MIT among others. Over 300 engineering graduates will be hired from IITs alone. The company will hire 35 graduates from IIT-Bombay, 32 from IIT-Delhi, 22 from IIT-Madras, 45 from IIT-Guwahati and 29 graduates from IIT-Kharagpur.
Samsung was on an aggressive hiring spree last year too. The tech giant hired 800 engineers in India last year, more than 300 of which were from IITs.
Along with the traditional discipline of computer science, Samsung will also hire graduates from diverse streams such as electrical engineering, applied mechanics and statistics etc. The new recruits will work on the whole lot of modern-age tech domains such as internet of things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, biometrics, augmented reality (AR) and networks including 5G.
The Samsung R&D Institute in Bengaluru is the company’s largest R&D Center outside South Korea. The Institute, along with the other two at Delhi and Noida, primarily work on developing innovations that are centred on the needs of Indian consumers and also contribute to innovations for global products. Samsung employs over 8,000 workers across the three R&D centers.
Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has been giving stiff competition to Samsung in terms of smartphone market share. The Chinese company recently dethroned Samsung as India’s No.1 smartphone brand. Though Samsung has refuted the claims, there’s no hiding that it has lost a large chunk of its revenue to Xiaomi. As Samsung generates a bulk of its revenue from smartphones, this is definitely a worrying sign, and that’s what could have triggered Samsung to take this step of mass hiring.
