ERICSSON BUSINESS INNOVATION FORUM, TOKYO: Japanese number one operator NTT Docomo emphasised its open approach to software and devices, stating that it will continue supporting multiple operating systems including the forthcoming Tizen platform.
Hiroyasu Asami, NTT Docomo’s EVP and managing director of its Smart-Life business division, outlined in a presentation about Docomo’s portfolio of services across many different platforms.

We have a multi-OS strategy,” he said, presenting a slide (above left) that gave a strong nod to Samsung’s Tizen platform. Earlier this year Docomo announced plans to launch a Tizen device by the end of this year, and a Docomo offering could therefore be expected within weeks.

He also noted that Docomo did not adequately take advantage of the featurephone market and aim at making amends for this with smartphones. Asami also presented a short video showcasing its own brand of wearable glasses (similar to Google Glass), although the exec said this was only a prototype and no commercial launch has been confirmed.
