Samsung will undoubtedly be the first to commercially launch a smartphone based on Tizen OS. The handset could resemble the Android-based Galaxy S III (sold in more than 40 million units around the world), and is supposed to go on sale later this year. But who’s going to be next?
Well, we don’t know exactly what company will be the second one, but we do know that, according to Japanese publication MSN Sankei News, Fujitsu and NEC are committed to release Tizen devices in 2014.
Most probably, both Fujitsu and NEC will introduce their Tizen phones in their home country (Japan) first.
Here is what Tizen 2.0 currently looks like (the final version of the OS will probably not be too different):
Back in August 2012, Fujitsu and NEC have joined forces with NTT DoCoMo to launch their own mobile chip manufacturer, called Access Network Technology Limited. It remains to be seen if we’ll find chips made by it in any of the future Tizen handsets.
Fujitsu, NEC and NTT DoCoMo are all in the Tizen Association’s Board of Directors, alongside Samsung, Intel, Huawei, Panasonic, Vodafone, Orange, Sprint, and South Korea’s SK Telecom and KT.
Anyway, it’s hard to believe Tizen will have a significant impact on the smartphone market during its first few years
