Samsung, during the Galaxy Unpacked event in February, had confirmed that the Galaxy Fold will go on sale in European countries on May 3. The company has now revealed which markets will get the highly anticipated device first. The handset will hit retail stores in as many as 15 European countries on May 3rd, the company has announced. Pre-orders will begin on April 26, the same day the device goes on sale in the US and South Korea.
15 European countries get the Galaxy Fold initially
Samsung has partnered up with several carriers in various European countries to launch the Galaxy Fold. The partners include Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone, O2, Proximus (in Germany) and Swisscom, Sunrise, Mobilezone (in Switzerland). The handset will be launched in 15 countries initially: United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Belgium, Netherlands, Poland, Austria, Switzerland and Romania.
“Galaxy Fold is the result of ten years of research, and represents a huge breakthrough in smartphone design and functionality. We are looking forward to becoming the first manufacturer to bring this revolutionary new form factor to Europe through close collaboration with our partners,” said Hadrian Baumann, Senior Vice President and Head of Sales, Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics Europe.
The Galaxy Fold features a primary 7.3-inch Dynamic AMOLED Infinity Flex Display, and a secondary 4.6-inch display on the back. It comes with Gorilla Glass 6 protection for survival in robust environments. Other highlights of the device include the App Continuity feature which allows seamless app transitions between the two displays. You also get five cameras (three on back, two on front), and a Multi-Active Window feature that let’s you use three apps simultaneously.
Interested buyers can register their interest today on Samsung’s official website. Pre-orders begin on April 26, with the handset hitting the shelves on May 3. The Galaxy Fold will cost €2,000 in Europe. However, every buyer will also get a pair of the new Galaxy Buds and a slim-design protective Kevlar case for free. Samsung is also offering one-year damage protection through Samsung Care. The device will be available in Space Silver, Cosmos Black, Martian Green and Astro Blue colors.
