Xiaomi Mi Band 4 launched with AMOLED display and $25 price tag

The much-awaited successor to the Mi Band 3 has officially arrived. Xiaomi today launched the Mi Band 4 in its home country China. The wearable, which boasts significant hardware and software improvements over its predecessor, will be available globally soon.

In addition, Huami, a Xiaomi sub-brand, is also launching two new smartwatches today. The successors to its popular Amazfit Verge and Amazfit Bip smartwatches are now available to pre-order.

Xiaomi Mi Band 4 launched

The Mi Band 4 is reminiscent to the previous generations in terms of design, but comes with significant upgrades underneath. It features a 0.95-inch AMOLED touchscreen display with a resolution of 240×120 pixels and a layer of a 2.5D scratch-resistant tempered glass on top. The new fitness tracker comes with five color options for the strap: Orange, Purple, Black, Burgundy and Beige. A special Avengers Edition of the wearable is also available.

Features on offer include a step counter, heart rate sensor, sleep monitoring, and much more. The device can automatically detect different activities such as running, outdoor running, exercise, swimming, cycling, and walking. There’s also a six-axis sensor which helps the device detect different swimming activities such as Freestyle, Backstroke, Butterfly stroke, and Medley.

The wearable can show app notifications, SMSes, WhatsApp messages from your connected smartphone. You can also control the music playback of your phone on the screen of the device. Furthermore, the Mi Band 4 also lets users to control Xiaomi’s smart home ecosystem devices. There’s also a microphone for voice interaction with the XiaoAI assistant. Xiaomi has also launched an NFC variant of the Mi Band 4. It supports mobile payments via AliPay and WeChat Pay in China.

As for prices, the Mi Band 4 is priced at 169 yuan ($25) for the Bluetooth variant, whereas the NFC variant costs 229 yuan ($33). The Avengers Edition Mi Band 4, which comes in limilted availability, costs 349 yuan ($51). Sales are expected to begin on the 14th of June.
