The Weather Company is a weather forecasting and an IT company that owns and operates weather.com and Weather Underground. The Weather Company is a subsidiary of the Data and Analytics Platform business unit of IBM.
Samsung and The Weather Company had announced an extended partnership earlier this year. The Weather Company was named the default weather provider for the Samsung weather widget on all Samsung devices. This was started from the advent of Samsung’s flagship, Galaxy S8 device in April. Now along with the widget integration, a clickable icon has launched within the Samsung Internet Browser for weather information. So visitors to the Samsung mobile browser can now get weather information from The Weather Channel preloaded icon.
Bixby’s weather experience
Bixby is a digital assistant from Samsung. It is an intelligent interface for smartphones that uses a mix of voice commands. Thus it helps the consumers live a more connected life. Bixby has been designed to learn more about the user’s day to day routines, So it can help them to complete various tasks across different applications. The assistant has been improved over some time. In Association with Samsung, the weather information is now provided to Samsung Bixby by The Weather Company.
- It provides Hourly forecasts up to 36 hours, 10-day forecasts.
- It also shows Static maps. The Static maps show the satellite radar images for a better view of local and regional weather.
- It provides weather alerts in order to help notify the users, in case of an impending weather based natural disasters like cyclones and so on.
The Weather Company is also a part of the Made for Samsung program. This program was created to provide a unique and exclusive app experience with The Weather Channel App on Samsung devices. This has been combined with a personalized transportation offering together with Lyft.
Check out The Weather Channel integration within Bixby Assistant on Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ devices in the U.S. first, to be expanded soon after globally to other devices and platforms.
