Samsung Electronics has introduced several of its products to the African market at the sixth annual Africa Forum in Antalya, Turkey which is a three-day forum. The main Interest for us here at Tizen Experts is the Samsung SUHD TVs that is being showcased there, as from 2015 onwards all Samsung TVs will run Tizen which is a HTML5 web standards open source platform.
Samsung has Included several Interesting features and partnered with content providers that target the African market quite well. There is African Cinema Mode, which promises to provide an optimised viewing experience for African cinematic content. More TV Plus is a service that allows for easy content transfer and Review, as it records TV programs by capturing a still image every 5 seconds, but included full audio content. Samsung has also partnered with eNCA allowing users easy access to Africa’s latest news, and for Sports highlights and live scores they have partnered with SuperSport. Users also get access to the premium lifestyle application, ONTV.
The top of the line 88-inch JS9500 TV is also on offer, but I’m not sure how many people will get this $22,999 (USD) TV. In total four models of the SUHD TV range are being Introduced to Africa, which includes the JS9500, JS9000 and JS8000.
Other Samsung products showcased include:
- Curved Soundbar – HW-J8500/J8501 Soundbar offers 9.1 channel audio with centre and side speakers, and also has Samsung’s Multi-Air Gap speaker unit contained in the subwoofer.
- 360-degree Speakers – WAM7500 and WAM6500 speakers that use Samsung’s proprietary ring radiator technology to produce 360-degree immersive sound.
- Samsung monitors – SE790C, SD590C, UD970 and SD850 range that are the latest cutting edge straight and curved monitors.
