Twitter Will Start Pushing ‘Follow’ Recommendations To Mobile Users

Twitter is rolling out a new feature that automatically sends mobile users suggestions on who to follow. Twitter has been testing this feature with @MagicRecs, an account that sends direct messages with personalized recommendations for users following the account.

According to the company, it has been modifying the algorithms based on user feedback and is now bringing this feature to all Twitter for Android and Twitter for iPhone users.

Although the experiment has had its share of spam, the company clearly feels confident enough with the service to provide the in-app functionality to a broader group of users. You can, however, turn it off the recommendations if you want; all you have to do is to flip the “Recommendations” toggle in the notifications settings of your Twitter app.

The popular @MagicRecs account won’t be going anywhere, though. It looks like it will still be a tool for Twitter to experiment on future updates.
